Locations for University of Chicago Dissertations
UMI Dissertation Publishing holds microfilm copies of most University of Chicago doctoral dissertations and of some early master's theses. The UMI copies may be purchased as pdfs, in paper, or in microform. Digital copies of titles processed in 1997 and since then are available to the University in ProQuest Dissertations and Theses @ University of Chicago and in the full ProQuest Dissertations & Theses database. Some earlier titles are available online also.
The University of Chicago Library holds paper copies of most University of Chicago doctoral dissertations and of many early master's theses, but they are not shelved together in one location. Law School and Social Service Administration dissertations are shelved in the Law School and SSA libraries. Dissertations dealing with topics in science, medicine, and technology are usually shelved at the John Crerar Library. Dissertations dealing with topics in the humanities and social sciences are usually shelved in the Joseph Regenstein Library. Check the library catalog for call numbers and locations.
